A Bridge Over Roaring Waters

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells.
Psalm 46:1-4

When a disaster strikes children look to their caregivers for comfort and direction. In the last few weeks alone, natural disasters have caused unprecedented flooding in areas of Nepal, Japan, Tunisia, Austria, Romania, and the United States. As each new disaster strikes, there is the potential for the traumatic experience to set children on the downward spiral of vulnerability in the aftermath of the storm.

After learning the BRIDGE principles at the RiverCross Summit earlier this year, one trainer commented that she knew she needed to apply these principles to her own life first, before she could share them with others and be the example her children needed.

Right now, hundreds of thousands of children around the world need to see their parents exemplify how to walk through tragedy with clear, calm communication. When caregivers exercise the BRIDGE principles, putting special emphasis on regulating self and embracing rest, children feel comfort and hope as they follow their parents across the BRIDGE to freedom.
