Feeding a Future

“Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh."
Luke 6:20-21.

Maha's Hope*

Maha's father has 3 wives with 9 children between them, living in an urban area in Zambia. For as long as she can remember, her mother has been a drug addict. To make matters worse Maha, her mother and father, and several of her siblings are all HIV positive.

With 12 mouths to feed, Maha rarely sees 3 meals a day at home, so at 10 years old she began to pick up small jobs around the city instead of going to school, hoping to earn enough cash to buy herself dinner for the night.

Then, a friend invited Maha to a RiverCross Freedom Club where she has learned the value of her education and has surrounded herself with a supportive community able to walk with her through her family's difficulties. Maha has gone back to school to finish her education, setting herself and others up for a future where they can thrive. Now, as Maha walks to Freedom Club, she brings with her the other children she finds working on the streets.
