The Good Neighbor
"Go and do likewise."
Luke 10:37
The Good Neighbor*
"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and love your neighbor as yourself."
But who is my neighbor?
When Jesus was asked this very question, he went on to describe the story of a man who was beaten, robbed, and left for dead on the side of the road. Many passed by the man, seeing his suffering, but continued on their way. But one man, a Samaritan, was moved with compassion when he saw the man's suffering. He lifted him up, bandaged his wounds, and walked alongside him as he recovered.
Every so often in life, there are moments that move us with compassion, but we must make the choice to stop and be a neighbor or continue on our way. For Kosha, the day she attended a RiverCross workshop was one of these moments.
Moved with compassion, Kosha decided in that moment to alter her path and open a school to serve vulnerable children through their trauma recovery. Kosha now rents a 7 room house in a neighborhood largely populated with young children experiencing hunger, homelessness, and other trauma - positioning herself to be a neighbor to as many children as she can.
"So which of these do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?"
"The one who had mercy on him."
