Stories of Healing

I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in him.
Psalm 40:1-3.

Akello's Hope*

In October of 2023, Akello attended the RiverCross Summit in Uganda. For years, Akello has ministered to hurting people in his community - both with a local foster care organization, and with his church.

After seeing success implementing RiverCross training with the foster families, Akello decided to utilize the power of story among his congregation as well. At Akello's church, he has started a counseling program centered around giving people a platform to share their stories. People of all ages from around the community gather to listen to one another - often crying together, and always praying together.

Akello's community is experiencing healing within the walls of the church. Every day when people share their stories, they are letting go of the guilt, shame, and hurt that they've carried and are being set free to thrive, empowered by their brothers and sisters who are walking through the healing process with them.

Akello expressed his thanks to RiverCross in the months following the Summit, saying:

For a long time I've worked with hurting people, but I never felt I had a solution for them. But thanks to the training I have received, I feel empowered to continue reaching people who have endured trauma and I'm excited to see how they get healed in the glory of the Lord's name.
