Now We Know What to Do

Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
James 5:16.

Akello's Hope*

Akello faithfully serves with a foster care organization in Uganda working with at risk children to rescue and rehabilitate families. Despite his passion for the work, Akello often felt the task of helping these children who have endured so much trauma was too great of a challenge.

When a partner of Akello's organization invited him to the RiverCross Summit last October, he was eager to learn all he could from the trainings, searching for the best way to serve his foster families. While reflecting on the Summit, Akello was most impacted by the healing power that comes from sharing stories.

After returning home from the Summit, Akello got busy sending out invitations to the children, their families, and their support communities to an event centered around sharing these healing stories. One woman, around the age of 60, spoke up from the back of the crowd and began sharing the story of a trauma she experienced when she was a young girl and the hurt she'd carried with her for over 40 years as a result. The room was moved to tears as this woman finally let go of her pain, surrounded by a compassionate community willing to encourage her through her healing.

Akello writes, "We're in a position to support simply because we attended the RiverCross Summit - we are skilled very well, we know how to handle our clients, and we know now what to do."

Since this event, the woman has continued to meet with Akello and other members of his team. She is experiencing healing and has already seen transformative joy in her life since opening up about her longtime suffering.
